Since You've Been Gone

Well i have to say i am overwhelmed at the responce i DIDN'T have for my last journal entry, nice to know i'm loved here 0_o. Oh well... Anyway i've decided to try my best to update my DA account every so often especially since i've gotten a bit more inspiration recently as well as a few more photo in my collection. Also i need something to help take my mind off issues and what better way to do this than photography :)

Recently i've had a well known problem i'm sure alot of people can relate to. My external hard drive (with high resolution backups of my photos) decided to kill itself and so i lost alot of memories and good photos with that :(. HOWEVER all is not lost with the fact that i managed to recover about 80% of them with thanks to CD backups, Deviant Art and my laptop. Some arn't as high quality as they used to be but atleast i have a copy of them. This goes to show how shitty technology can be and how important it is to backup work several different ways ;)

In other news i've recently from a 5 day holiday at Center Parcs in Longleat, where i had a very enjoyable time :) I did all sorts of activities i'll probably never experience again such as Skuba Diving, Abseiling and Fencing. Not to mention a nice trip into Longleat Safari Park where i got some wonderful animal shots! Definatly a worthy place for people to visit...

You can go your own way!

Its been such a long time since i last updated and since its a new year i should of really done something sooner. But people have things to do so do i. None the less here's a very belated Happy New Year to all of you on my lists.

Now time for the update...

Photography has taken a bit of back burner atm but it's still trickleing out as and when i can get some new shots. Infact i'll be departing to Center Parcs at Longleat as of the 16th Feb, so that should give me a very nice selection of photo opportunities. Also if some of you have noticed i'm trying to branch out into other mediums including a big of Digital art and graphics which is also a good break from photography every now and then.

The main bit of news i need to inform you all about is that as some of you know i've been undergoing treatment for cancer quite a while and thus it has now taken another step recently. I've been diagnosed about 5 times now over nearly 5 years (yes its really been that long) and the other day i talked with my consultant about my next set of treatment choices, i won't bore you with the details. But as a result i will most likely not be able to update as much as i have been. Because of this i'll be letting my Subscription run out this year and concentrate on more pressing issues... I won't dissapear altogether but things will be on "Silent Running" until further notice.

Its been good to meet all of you on my watch list, you've all mean so must to me in so many different ways. A Special Mentions though goes to :iconkimatsu: :iconladyepona: :iconsonkem: :iconblackfrostrose: and :iconpuss--in--boots: all have inspired me and helped over the time i've been on here (Yes i know you all just so happen to be female too XD).

Dont take this entry as a morbid post cause its not i'm just letting you all know the situation, i'm remaining positive but i have to focus on other things for now.

Take Care All and Stay Positive

1 Shiny New Diploma

Yes you read correctly, i now have a shiny new Photography Diploma. I got it the other week after a shitty day in hospital having checkups and scans. It definatly brightened up my day!

Not only did i manage to pass and gain the Diploma, i passed it at Distinction level which is wonderful since thats my first Distiction i've got in education. The Highest i'd previously had was a Merit and that was for my Business Studies GNVQ.

With that now added to my CV i'm on the prowl for my next course, thing is i don't know where to aim for. Whether i should go for a higher level Photography Qualification or get a diploma in another area which i'm good at. I'd probably end up going for the former rather than latter...

In other news:

I've been doing alot of creative work using other mediums such as script writing and filming. I originally did a film for JimmyTeensTV about 3 years ago to show what life was like on the Adult Cancer Patients Ward, quite a morbid film really. Now over the past 3 months i've done 2 new films! One to do with Radiotherapy and the latest to do with the "Bridge The Gap" charity walk me and my family did. We all took tonnes of photos and footage and last week i managed to finish editing it, i've now sent it off to the owners of JimmyTeens for them to put it up.

Also i'm in the process of putting together a script for a space radio series with my brother. So hopefully we can complete that soon and possible get recording shortly after ^_^

Creative Encouragement

Why is it that it seems to vary month to month how much happens to me? One month absolutly nothing happens and i try and scrape up as much info as i can in order to put together a decent Journal entry. The next month so much happens that i could almost put together an essay!

Right time to break down what's happened and to explain some of the more recent photos that i've uploaded:

- I went to the Butterfly and Wildlife Park near Wisbeach mid August and finally got myself some nice Butterfly shots to add to my portfolio. Perfect place to get some nice close up shots of some really beautiful creatures. Not just butterflies but Iguanas, birds of prey, leaf cutter ants (definatly interesting to see) and Fluffy Pigs!! lol

- Went to ~ladyepona writers circle and actually had a good time. Will probably take me a few sessions to get into the flow but everyone were very friendly and i didn't feel unwelcome. I'm just dredding the day i'll have to submit some of my work for people to read. lol

- I went to Sacrawell Farm Early September and managed to take some photos with ~ladyepona Canon EOS 450D because mine died again! I managed to take some more lovely shots and the day was lovely, considerably warmer than the last time i went in February!

- My Sister took my EOS 405D back to Currys to get the things sorted and managed to get the whole camera replaced. Mine was originally a display model, so that was probably the main reason i kept having problems. Very early version and thus has the usual flaws and bugs still in it. But all is well once again!

- Me and my family went on the "Bridge The Gap" charity walk, as team "Shine On", in order to help raise money for the TCT Addenbrookes Appeal and two other charities. The weather was perfect and it was lovely walking around Cambridge and through the many colleges on route. Hence where i got alot of the Architecture shots in my Gallery. So far my family has managed to raise over £200 which really isn't bad going.

- Finally over the past month i've been getting more into producing short films. This was originally started by JimmyTeensTV when they got me to film my time on the Adult Cancer Ward about 3 years ago. Now i've created a new up-to-date film focus around my recent radiotherapy treatment, now it seems i've caught the bug, and i've already started my next film project.

So that seems to be that for now, no doubt more will pop up in the next month or so. So keep an eye out ;)

Quick Update

Wed Aug 6, 2008, 2:52 AM
  • Mood: Eager
Just thought i'd update you all on some things that have been going on. It's been pretty hecktick over the past month so i've not really had chance to say too much.

Firstly i have to say my holiday to Cornwall and Devon turned out great :D Managed to take alot of great photos and spend a good 10 days relaxing and walking. It seems you don't realise how unfit you are until you walk around places like Clovelly and Lands End.
The only negative thing that happened was that my Canon EOS 450D totally locked up on day 8 of the holiday and as a result i wasn't able to take any photos with that. What really pissed me off it that it happened out of the blue with no warning signs... THANKFULLY we took my good old Fuji S9500 so i kept taking shots for the last few days :)

On the subject of my Canon i have to say that when i took it back to Currys they had to of been one of the most UNHELPFUL bunch of morons i've come across. Customer service was dire and the whole experience was just a pain in the arse. However i did send my camera off to be repaired and i got it back yesterday in full working order... so thankfully my "limb" has been returned to me finally :D Took 14 bloody days to do so though <_<

Also i would like to announce that i am in the process of putting together an event to raise money for 2 charities, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Wallace Cancer Care. There's still alot to be planned and booked but i have a date and Venue Booked. So i shall keep you all informed as and when things develop :)

Additional: I have now uploaded and added 3 new stamps... just thought i'd add that XD
